UPDATE: Homeless man stabbed outside Checkers alive in hospital

EMMARENTIA – A group of homeless people were embroiled in a fight behind the supermarket.

The Parkview Police have now confirmed that a stabbing occurred at a Checkers in Emmerentia, where a group of homeless people were embroiled in a fight behind the supermarket on 29 March.

A homeless man was subsequently stabbed by another homeless man during the altercation.

The Northcliff Melville Times initially reported that the homeless man had died based on eyewitness reports but have since established that he is recovering in hospital. 

Parkview police spokesperson Captain Tinswalo Sibeko said that a case of assault GBH was opened at the Parkview Police Station, after their members were called onto the scene to assist with the situation.

 “The victim was found bleeding by members of the SAPS and the man who had allegedly stabbed him ran away by the time we arrived on the scene. The wounded man was transported to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital for his injuries, after being attended to by the ambulance on the scene,” said Captain Sibeko.

She added that police recorded statements from witness on the scene and the case is still under investigation.
