AACL successful outreach programme

SOPHIATOWN –The Animal Anti-Cruelty League hosted an outreach project to treat the community's pets.

SOPHIATOWN – The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) hosted their first outreach project in the community of Sophiatown as part of their primary healthcare project.

This programme is the seventh outreach they have held in different communities in Johannesburg.

Animal Anti-Cruelty League general manager, Cindy Price, said the day was a great success and the team met compassionate community members.

“The gratitude expressed by residents that day was a humbling experience, and we also thanked them for supporting the project,” she said.

“We saw 242 animals, consisting of 179 dogs, 31 puppies, 17 cats and 15 kittens. A total of 199 dogs and 27 cats were vaccinated and 186 vaccinations were administered to the community’s animals on the day.”

Due to the recent rains and incorrect use of tick and flea products, there was a high incidence of flea bite allergies.

Price also thanked all the sponsors who donated much-needed items, AACL staff, family members and friends who ensured the smooth running of the event.

“We wish to thank our collaborators Cause4Paws in our outreach programme and for paying the balance of the vaccinations used. Cause4Paws also did a tremendous job on the day by handing out donations. They supplied bowls, collars, harnesses, leads, pet food and blankets which the community was very grateful for.”

AACL will return to Sophiatown every two weeks, on Mondays, from 13 March.
