A flair for fashion

ROOSEVELT PARK – A resident with a passion for clothing enjoys volunteering at the clothing store that raises funds for Gem Homes.

ROOSEVELT PARK – Isabel’s at Gem is a charity store that sells clothes to raise funds for Gem Homes for elderly citizens.

The store, situated on the same premises as the home, is a popular place where everyone is welcomed with open arms.

Gem resident, Jeanette Johnston said the store was named after a resident who used to run it.

Johnston now runs the store and said she enjoys selling clothes and interacting with customers on a daily basis.

She has been a resident for two years and volunteered to run the store when the position became available. Her clothing journey began when, as a youngster, she used to make clothes for herself.

“I taught myself how to make clothes when I was 15 years old and have always had a keen interest in clothing. I occasionally help out residents with their alterations and also do minor alterations on the clothing I sell in the store,” Johnston said.

Isabel’s at Gem is not only a store but also a place where visitors gather to socialise while doing their shopping.

“We sell ladies and gentlemen’s clothing, shoes, handbags, hats, as well as baby and children’s clothing. All proceeds go towards our home. We have lovely clothes in the store and we welcome the public’s support and invite them to pop along and purchase clothing, and we would also appreciate any donations of unwanted items,” concluded Johnston.
