Councillor’s Corner: How does the City communicate with residents?

JOBURG – Read this week's question and answer in Councillor's Corner.

This week’s Councillor’s Corner question is:
Would there be a possibility of creating a D6 Communicator, similar to what schools use, for the City of Johannesburg to communicate with residents about important updates, outages and water disruptions? If not, what system is the City currently using to try and keep their residents informed?

Mike Wood, Ward 104 councillor, answered:
The city does not have a D6 Communicator but all the municipal entities have Twitter accounts whereby they keep the residents informed should there be outages, water bursts or traffic disruptions. The City also communicates with councillors should there be any disruptions to services. This information is then shared with the relevant residents’ associations in that area. The City also has a very comprehensive website where the residents can access recquired information. All councillors’ contact details are available and residents are welcome to make contact with them.

Do you have a question for a ward councillor?
As a local newspaper, the Northcliff Melville Times provides a platform for residents to learn about, understand and follow local government. As an extension of that, there is a weekly column called Councillor’s Corner which is a platform for you, our readers, to voice your concerns or questions for ward councillors to respond to. Different, willing, ward councillors will respond to a question each week.
