Pirates Madalas perform well

GREENSIDE –The Storage Old Boys Rugby Festival was attended by rugby fans from all over the country.

Rugby fans gathered to watch their favourite teams compete in the Storage Old Boys Tens Rugby Festival at the Pirates Sports Club.
More than 25 rugby teams participated involving 600 players and more than 60 rugby games were played.
Pirates Sports Club chairperson Brad Guymer said the tournament was an annual event and it was the third time it was hosted at the sports club. This year it was a charity based event in support of OBX, which is an educational fundraising initiative that has various beneficiaries.

“The overall competition was an unbelievable competition for our club,” he said.
“We had a great response from the teams that participated and the supporters. Pirates played against Wanderers which was a great team to play. Many of the players are friends who have known each other for a number of years.”
He added that Pirates’ best game was against Hamiltons from Cape Town because the last time the two teams played was in 2009.
Spectators also had the opportunity to enjoy food stalls, live entertainment, a beer garden, music and a play area for children. The wet weather did little to slow down the enthusiasm of the spectators and players. The Pirates Madalas did well by winning two out of their three games.
The Pirates Sports Club results were:

  • Pirates Madalas 33–0 French Old Boys
  • Pirates Madalas 33–0 Wanderers Sables
  • Pirates Madalas 17–22 Hammies Old Boys.

The Middleburg Old Boys were the overall winners of the Storage Old Boys Tens Rugby Festival.
