A man was fatally wounded in a shooting incident near the corner of Perth Road and Portland Avenue yesterday afternoon.
Captain Mavela Masondo, the provincial spokesperson for the Gauteng Police, said the Police are investigating the possibility that the 50-year-old victim, who was driving a Range Rover, was followed by suspects in a silver grey Mitsubishi minivan.
Jeanette Backhoff, communications office for the Brixton Police, added that witnesses saw four men wearing balaclavas, who were driving in the Mitsubishi, approach his car at the intersection. The men were all armed and opened fire on the driver of the Range Rover.
Masondo said the suspects removed a bag from the backseat of the victim’s car before they fled.
The victim was taken to the Helen Joseph Hospital where he died. He can not be identified before his next of kin has been notified.
At this stage no arrests have been made but the Police are following up all leads, said Backhoff.
This is a developing story.
