“Clean it up or sell it!” – says Eliasov

NORTHCLIFF – A disappointed resident shares his grievances about the Northcliff Corner Shopping Centre.

Resident feels as though the centre has lost its image more so in the last five years.

A recent post on the I love Northcliff’ Facebook page sparked a very controversial topic.

It read, “Northcliff Corner Shopping Centre is dragging down our area. I’m sure many residents are sick of the litter, empty shops, drunks and the all the problems the centre is bringing to our lovely area. What can be done ???”

This opened the door to comments about the centre. Both good and bad.

The post was put up by Northcliff resident, Verne Eliasov who felt very disappointed in the upkeep of the centre and its surroundings.

Eliasov explained that in his 15 years of living in the community, he has noticed that the Northcliff Corner Shopping Centre seemed to have declined in last five years, if not more.

“Though the centre was never exceptional,” he added.

His sentiments were very clear, he thought that the centre was not doing its part in making sure its surrounding areas were clean and safe for consumers.

“There are elements around the centre that attract unsavoury characters,” he expressed. Eliasov also said that there not being enough security aids in people not feeling safe around the centre.

“Most people will speak highly of the Checkers but apart from that store, there doesn’t seem to be much else people can speak high of,” expressed Eliasov.

Some of the shop owners at the shopping centre did not agree with his comments, in fact, they were highly against the accusations made by him.

One shop owner said that the success of any business lies in its clientele hence stores like the Checkers will succeed because of its good record. The shop owner also stated that they had never experienced the centre to be as Eliasov described. “I am really shocked at what he is saying, yes, stores do close down but that is not because of the environment, it’s the economy,” concluded the shop owner.
