Right 2 know occupies SABC headquarters

AUCKLAND PARK – R2K say Hlaudi Motsoeneng is treating the SABC as his private entity.

Right 2 Know (R2K) activists are currently confronting SABC management and staging a sit-in at SABC Headquarters in Auckland Park.

This, following the SABC management’s decision to bar four journalists from entering their place of work after they were reinstated by the Labour Court on 26 July. The court ruled in favour of the four journalists who were unlawfully dismissed for standing up against SABC’s COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Judge Robert Le Grange said that Krivani Pillay, Suna Venter, Foeta Krige and Jacques Steenkamp are entitled to return to work. The judgement also states that the SABC is interdicted from proceeding with disciplinary hearings initiated against the journalists prior to their dismissals.

However, on the morning of 27 July, the journalists were informed that they were not allowed to enter the building because the SABC is appealing Judge Le Grange’s ruling. R2K strongly condemn the continuous victimisation of staff who dare question unethical editorial decisions. R2K said that Motsoeneng must stop treating the SABC as his own private entity and to please those who are in power. It is a public broadcaster that is supposed to serve the people, they added.
