Classics bring 42 medals

NORTHCLIFF – Alchemy Cresta and Tang Soo Do bring back numerous medals.

Tang Soo Do and Alchemy Dojang exceed expectations at the recent Arnold Classics 2016.

The dojo’s walked away with an impressive number of medals to add to their extensive collection. In total they accomplished 11 gold, 18 silver and 13 bronze medals.

To prepare for the Arnold Classic, master of the dojo, Gregory Hart said that it had been on their year plan since November last year. “We had competition classes every Friday for an hour and a half over and above the normal three to four hours a week of training,” he said.

The atmosphere of the classics was described by Hart as electric. “It was electric, we were flat out from the beginning dealing with the massive influx of martial arts competitors,” he explained. He added that there was action everywhere one turned with about 47 sports, on five floors of the Convention Centre spilling out into Mandela square.

Students of the dojo who participated in the great experience were extremely excited. The size of the martial arts event and being part of the Arnold Classic was a thrill to all of them. “We had to work hard to overcome nerves and deliver top class performances,” said Hart.

Of course seeing Arnold in the flesh was exciting and those who got to see him, found his enthusiasm for sport and competition infectious.

Future plans for the dojos are to represent South Africa at the World Martial Arts Games at the Ticketpro Dome on the 12 to 14 October 2016. “We plan to train hard and show the rest of the world what South Africans are made of ,” said Hart.
