Much excitement was felt at the 2016 Hollard Jozi Urban Mountain Bike Adventure (Juma).
The cyclists came in their thousands from all over the city, to participate in the adventure race starting at Marks Park on 29 May. The race involved numerous challenging obstacles such as dark and wet storm drains, to jumps over ravines and scaffolding ramps.
The riders went all through the City of Joburg from West Park Cemetery, Conrad Drive, Jan Smuts to Oxford roads. The obstacles were gruelling and made for a true adventure mountain bike race. Hollard general manager Warwick Bloom said, “We encourage people to see what the City has to offer and hopefully this will make them feel better about our City’s infrastructure.”
Bloom explained how the race reflects many positives but also negatives in the City. “Many of the storm drains and parks have vagrants and we used this opportunity to give them temporary employment,” added Bloom.
“This has been a wonderful weekend with even better weather. The spirit of participation has been great as well as an encouraged harmony between City users such as cyclists, dog walkers who became conscious of the different users.”
