Another crash takes lives on Easter weekend

AUCKLAND PARK – Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped driver from the vehicle.

Two people were killed, including a 3-year-old boy, and two others injured last night after two vehicles collided head-on on Barry Hertzog Road in Auckland Park.

ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, arrived on the scene and found both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road on 25 March.

According to Er24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, “On inspection, paramedics found [that] a man and a three-year-old boy were lying trapped inside the first vehicle.” He added that both patients succumbed to their injuries prior to the arrival of paramedics.

Paramedics inspected the second vehicle and they found the male driver and passenger in the vehicle. The driver lay trapped inside the vehicle in a critical condition.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped driver from the vehicle.

Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions. They were thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
