Brixton SAPS successful operation

BRIXTON – Brixton SAPS makes six arrests after conducting a special operation in their sector.

Brixton Police with the support of the Brixton Community Policing Forum, neighbourhood watches, reservist as well as the sector managers conducted a special operation on 15 March in Melville, Brixton and Vrededorp areas.

Spokesperson for the Brixton Police Station, Jeanette Backhoff said that in total they made six arrests which included one person arrested for possession of an unlicenced firearm, another arrest made after a suspect’s fingerprints were positively linked by the Mobile Connectivity Device (MCD) to a robbery case in Welkom, and four arrests were made for drug-related charges. “We are experiencing problems with drug-related offences as well as theft of motor vehicle in our policing sector and the special operation was to make our presence in the area felt,” Backhoff said. She pointed out that the operation lasted all day and comprised of stop and searches, checking of local shebeen’s liquor licences and to create awareness of crime in the area.”We want to warn criminals committing offences in our sector that eventually we will catch them as we plan on doing more operations in the area,” Backhoff added.
