Police arrest four alleged drug dealers in Newclare

SOPHIATOWN – Four suspects were arrested with drugs with an estimated street value of R80 000.

Sophiatown Police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of about R80 000 at a flat in Newclare during the weekend.

After an investigation, following up on tips and complaints received from the public about the illegal drug trade, four suspects between the ages of 25 and 30 years were arrested by police on 13 March.

Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Thomas de Bruyn said the suspects were charged with dealing in drugs.

Newlands Community Patrol Group chairperson, Gerda Lourens, thanked the dedicated police officers who brought the dealers to book.

She said the police went beyond the call of duty and followed up on information from the public.

“As a community affected by drugs, drug deals and drug-related crimes, we would like to give thanks to these dedicated officers for the time and effort put in by them to reduce the drugs on the streets of Newlands and surrounding areas,” said Lourens.
