Pupils learn from the elderly

AUCKLAND PARK – Vorentoe High School pupils visit the elderly and receive life advice.

The Learner’s Representative Council of Vorentoe High School volunteered to entertain the elders of Jordan House Old Age Home in Westbury.

The council, led by Vorentoe High head girl, Genevieve Manickum, took the initiative to do good in the community and visit the elderly to bring some joy into their lives. The pupils served the Jordan House residents lunch, played games with the elderly, and Vorentoe High’s head boy, Luyandi Mazwi, played the piano while the rest of the council sang and danced with the elders.

Between the fun and games, the Jordan House residents advised the pupils to enjoy their life and their time as teenagers, and that they must work hard and look after themselves.

“We were given advice and we were so encouraged. We also gave advice about enjoying life to the elders and made them smile a lot, even those without teeth. It was an amazing day,” Manickum added.
