UJ investigate allegations of application scam

AUCKLAND PARK – Allegations are doing the rounds that a former SRC member at the University of Johannesburg was involved in a student application and registration scam.

University of Johannesburg is investigating allegations of a registration and applications scam. Victims of the alleged scam were asked to get in touch with the university immediately.

A former member of the Student Representative Council (SRC) stands accused – together with others – of being involved in an application and registration scam.

Aspirant students were allegedly asked to pay money to help them register at the university.

The university indicated in a statement from the spokesperson Herman Esterhuizen, that it took these allegations of criminal conduct very seriously.

“In addition to looking into the matter internally, the university has also approached the police to investigate the claims, so that all those who are associated with the alleged scam – whether inside or outside the university – can be brought to book,” Esterhuizen said.
