Brixton SAPS warn of new robbery trend

BRIXTON – Brixton Police warn residents of a new method robbers have adopted.

Brixton Police is warning residents about a new modus operandi robbers have adopted in Brixton, Auckland Park, Mayfair and Vrededorp.

Brixton Police Station spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff said that the robbers allegedly parked their car on the side of the road and pretend to need assistance in pushing it.”Once the resident complies with the request to help push the car, they then asked to put their belongings in the car to help to push it and that is when the robber drives off with the residents belonging,” Backhoff said.

She added that women usually lost their handbags and warned residents to be more vigilant of their surroundings and to not walk around with valuable items.

She pointed out that police members at Brixton Police Station worked tirelessly to catch robbers in their cluster. Backhoff explained that the police made a breakthrough recently in a robbery case. “We opened a case of armed robbery after a complainant laid a charge after she was robbed at knifepoint by three assailants in Molesey Street in Auckland Park,” she said.

The accused was found guilty and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment and was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
