Pancake lovers support fundraiser
NORTHCLIFF– Elm Park Village raises funds to buy new bestselling novels for their library.
Elm Park Village hosted Shrove Tuesday which is known in some countries as Pancake Day. The holiday is celebrated by eating pancakes in preparation for the fasting period of Lent.
Elm Park Village resident Judith van Diggelen said that the pancake evening was a fundraising initiative where the money raised go toward the village’s library.
“The books we have in our library are donated by people who no longer use or want them. The librarian came up with the fundraising idea in order to raise funds to purchase new bestselling novels for the residents,” said Van Diggelen.
Residents were encouraged to invite their family and friends to come and enjoy the delicious pancakes prepared by some of the village residents.
Van Diggelen described how hundreds of delicious pancakes were made for hungry customers. The pancakes were made in advance to have enough stock in anticipation of the flood of pancake lovers. People had the choice of buying a pancake filled with mince, chicken or the traditional lemon and cinnamon.
“The response from residents and the community was excellent. We managed to sell over 300 pancakes and made over R1 600. Our librarian purchased us 14 new books that we are excited about reading,” said Van Diggelen.
