Northcliff boy to represent South Africa in karting championship

NORTHCLIFF – Jordan North (12) will be travelling to France to compete in an international kart-racing competition.

Jordan North, a Northcliff resident and pupil of Radford House in Fairland, has been selected to participate in the 2016 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy competition. This year marks the seventh season of the event that gives children between the age of 13 to 15 the opportunity to represent their country and showcase the new generation of kart-racing talent.

North has been in a kart seat since he was five years old. He will be 13 in May and already has a long list of international achievements to his name. He participated in his first international event in 2013, where he placed 12th in the Autumn Cup in Lonato del Garda, Italy.

Additionally, he has participated in two Rok World Championships and won the 2015 Northern Regions Junior Rok Championship. Last year, North was back in Italy for the Bridgestone Super Cup where he set the fourth fastest time in the Junior Rok final.

North’s father, Hector, said, “We are over the moon, it is a wonderful opportunity and he really deserves it. He is obviously passionate about it and we spend a lot of time at the tracks. Hopefully this brings hope to other children and motivates them to achieve.”

The CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy is essentially three competitions, the first in France between 22 and 24 April; the second in Portugal between 24 and 26 June and the conclusion in Sweden between 2 and 4 September, where the final will be during the CIK-FIA World KZ Championship.

The winner will be invited to participate in the CIK-FIA World Junior Championship with one of the official teams of the Tony Kart Group in Bahrain this November. The top five racers receive free entry to the 2017 CIK-FIA championship of their choosing.
