MONTGOMERY PARK– Residents played fun games at a Valentine's Day braai hosted at Montgomery Retirement Village.

Montgomery Haven Retirement Village in Montgomery Park hosted a Valentine’s braai for their residents on 11 February ahead of Valentine’s Day.

Residents and staff were dressed in red outfits to go with the theme. They played fun games such as musical chairs with a bean bag, and threw a ball to each other.

Administrative manager Debra Peverelle said they host a Valentine’s braai for the residents to give them an opportunity to also celebrate this special occasion.

“We try to host as many events as we possibly can to entertain the residents. Everyone participates by dressing in red outfits and sit in the Valentine’s-themed decorated garden. We also celebrate other major events where we encourage residents to integrate with each other,” said Peverelle.

Montgomery Haven Retirement Village matron Esmé Gerber encouraged the residents to play games by going around the circle with a ball that the residents enjoyed throwing back.

Johanna Scholotz said she prepared Valentine’s presents for the residents, which included a variety of chocolates and also delicious home-baked koeksisters. After the games, a large meal was shared by all.

Peverelle added that residents have a number of activities that keep them busy every week.

“On Mondays Top Dogs therapy brings trained dogs to interact with our residents. The [Northcliff Union Church https://nuc.co.za/] hosts a tea-and-cake occasion once a month on a Tuesday and on Thursdays they also take our residents to [Cresta Shopping Centre] to shop for a few hours,” said Peverelle.
