IFAASA raises awareness about fertility treatment

JOBURG – During Reproductive Health Month the fertility education and awareness campaign is supported by a number of clinics.

Reproductive Health month takes place from 1–29 February in South Africa. The Infertility Awareness Association of South Africa is running an educational and awareness campaign for couples to Fast Track Fertility Assessment.

The CEO of IFAASA Meggan Zunckel said IFAASA not only encourages couples experiencing infertility challenges but also the general public to educate themselves about infertility. She believes pregnancy is a privilege not everyone can experience.

“Everyone needs to be supportive of these families and couples struggling with infertility because they are going through a huge emotional and financial challenge. We are delighted to have the backing and support of South Africa’s leading fertility clinics in driving awareness of infertility,” said Zunckel.

The educational campaign is supported by a number of clinics who are accredited by the Southern African Society of Reproductive Medicine Gynecological Endoscopy (SASREG) accredited clinics.

They have committed to consultations booked in the month of February where couples will qualify for a 25 per cent discount on their first consultation and scan.

“To receive your 25 per cent discount you need to register on the IFAASA website. Couples are required to select a clinic, then after registration to book an appointment directly with them,” explained Zunckel.

Chairperson of SASREG Dr Paul le Roux said that many couples wait too long until they access fertility treatments. The success rate of fertility treatments is linked to factors such as age and in some cases delaying treatment by 6–12 months can make a significant difference in the outcome of surgery.

“An early evaluation of a couple with fertility problems will provide important information to guide the couple as to how urgently treatment is warranted and which types of treatment will be relevant to them,” said Dr le Roux.
