UPDATE – 150 UJ students arrested

BRIXTON – UJ SRC president Khutso Rammutla and formwr Wits SRC president arrested along with around 150 UJ students.

About 150 University of Johannesburg students were arrested on 6 November for contravening a court order obtained by the university.

The arrest comes after 13 cleaning staff were arrested earlier in the morning.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the university’s SRC president Khutso Rammutla and former Wits SRC president Shaeera Kalla are among those arrested.

UPDATE – 13 workers from UJ arrested 

Students were arrested in their numbers and taken to the Brixton Police Station.

According to unconfirmed reports around 40 students have now congregated outside the Brixton Police Station, to show solidarity with their arrested counterparts.

Gauteng police spokesman Captain Tshekiso Mofokeng confirmed that the students have been arrested and taken to Brixton police station.

Captain Mofokeng said that they were processing the students and expected the process to take a long time because they had to process students one by one.
