Wheelchair Tennis SA gets the biggest recognition

WESTDENE – Lucas Sithole nominated twice for the 2015 SA Sports Awards

Wheelchair Tennis South Africa received the biggest recognition at the South African Sports Awards nominees announcement on 3 November.

Two Westdene residents Lucas Sithole and Kgothatso Monthane are among the nominees.

Sithole, the World no 3 quad ace, is nominated in two categories this year at the awards event in Auckland Park..

He was nominated for Sportsman of the Year with a disability alongside wheelchair racer and hand-cyclist Ernst van Dyk and Pieter du Preez.

The former US Open champion Sithole, is also one of the five nominees for the People’s Choice of the Year category, where he faces stiff competition from AB de Villiers, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, Chad le Clos and Wayde van Niekerk.

The Wheelchair Tennis SA calls on all South Africans to wave their flags and show their spirit by voting for Lucas Sithole for the People’s Choice of the Year.

The award is determined by public votes.

Voting closes on 22 November.

Montjane, also from Westdene, is the country’s top women’s player and received a nomination for the Sportswoman of the Year with a disability.

The superstar will be eyeing her second after taking the award in the same category at the Gauteng Sports Awards last month.

The country’s top junior, ranked Number 2 globally is Nokwande Hlongwane who was nominated for the Newcomer of the Year alongside Jayde Andrew Julius and Kagiso Rabada.

The nomination of the coach, Holger Losch, for the Coach of the Year, and Karen Losch for the Administrator of the Year completed Wheelchair Tennis South Africa’s magnificent year.

Wheelchair Tennis South Africa general manager Karen Losch said, “We are extremely proud and overjoyed with the six nominations we received at the SA Sports Awards.”

Losch said it is a privilege and an honour for their athletes and coach to be recognised on this prestige level.”
