Police arrest 4 after Albertville robbery

ALBERTVILLE – One suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, while four other suspects were arrested.

Four suspects were arrested in the morning of 24 October while trying to rob Jumbo Pharmacy in Albertville.

According to the police, five suspects followed the store owner in the morning while he was on his way to open the store.

They then held him up at gun point inside the store. They allegedly demanded the key to the safe and started collecting the money.

Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn explained that one suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.  WO de Bruyn indicated that the store owner managed to press the panic button while suspects were trying to escape, and locked the entrance to the store.

“The only suspect who was standing outside fled the scene but those four who were inside were arrested,” he said. He further explained that no one was injured and they are investigating an incident of business robbery.

The Suburban Crime Prevention  (SCP) security company indicated that they acted swiftly upon hearing there was a robbery in progress. Thando Mashau from the control room said they dispatched guards immediately and helped in the arrest of four suspects.
