Randburg SAPS provide tips on how to prevent a burglary seeing that burglaries in Randburg have increased.

Major André Cilliers said as soon as any suspicious activity is spotted, it must be reported to police immediately.

“Residents are important in creating a crime-free zone as they are the eyes and ears for the police in neighbourhoods,”said Maj Cilliers.

Maj Cilliers top tips are:

  • Make sure the house looks occupied at all times
  • Lock all doors and windows before leaving the house or going to bed
  • Leave lights on when leaving the house or set automated timers on lights if leaving for a longer period
  • Keep the garage door closed and locked at all times
  • Do not allow newspapers, mail or flyers to build up in the mailbox, arrange with somebody to remove it or arrange with the post office to keep mail
  • Arrange that the lawn gets mowed while away
  • Make sure all locks work accordingly.

Maj Cilliers said it is easy to become a target as the weather is changing and windows and doors are left open.

He concluded that prevention is better than cure and people should be vigilant at all times.
