Local bowler takes top prize
ROOSEVELT PARK – Charles Joyce becomes the best senior bowler in Joburg
Resident of Roosevelt Park, Charles Joyce, won the Johannesburg Bowls Association (JBA) Perfect Delivery Senior Masters Men 2015 over the weekend of 29 to 30 August.
Joyce is a member of the Roosevelt Park Bowling Club. He has been bowling for 25 years. In this time, Joyce has won a number of bowling accolades including the JBA President’s Cup as well as dominating the singles’ competition at the club, winning three competitions in four years.
It was a special victory for Joyce as he beat former teammate and skipper, Lewis Klopper, in the final of the tournament. Joyce was humble in his victory, with nothing but admiration for his adversary. “It was great to play Lewis in the final, I know him so well and I’m very familiar with the way he plays.”
When asked about his achievement, Joyce laughed and noted, referring to the trophy, “It’s quite a huge block of wood.”
“We moved to Northcliff to be closer to the club,” explained Joyce, who has a close connection to the club. “We’re looking for members. We encourage anyone who wants to become a social player, everybody’s welcome.”
