Carel Venter Park gets renamed

GREYMONT – Carel Venter Park is renamed to Greymont Park.

Carel Venter was a Nationalist Party councillor and the Mayor of Johannesburg from 1980 –1981. Yet, nestled in Greymont, in the vicinity of Alberts Farm, a small park is dedicated to him.

Recently, the community felt that the park should be renamed to something more neutral. According to Julie Gouws, chairperson of Friends of Alberts Farm, “I think the community wanted to change the name from Carel Venter to something more people could identify with, and it makes sense as it is a park in Greymont.”

The City of Johannesburg has approved the name change from Carel Venter Park to Greymont Park.
