Dead body found in Fairland

FAIRLAND – A man has been found dead in Fairland.

A man’s body, believed to be a homeless man, was found at a shopping complex in Smit Street, on 17 July.

According to an eyewitness, she discovered the body when she was driving past the shopping complex.

According to the informant, homeless people usually spend their day at the Smit Street Park and later on, they sleep on the pavement at the shopping complex.

“It has become problematic for residents to witness homeless people sleeping on pavements,” she said.

“I just feel like the city is doing nothing about finding a suitable place for these homeless people and it is very cold,” said the concerned resident.

Fairland Police Station spokesperson Michael Kgatla said when the police arrived, they had found the man already dead.

The body, according to Kgatla, does not have any visible wounds that might suggest foul play.

“The man has not been identified, however, paramedics informed us that the man died of natural courses,” Kgatla said.
