GALLERY: Rugby mania of skills

MALANSHOF – University of Johannesburg Junior Rugby Club took part in the Diggers 7’s Tournament at the Randburg Diggers Rugby Club.

U9 and U13 University of Johannesburg (UJ) Junior Rugby Club players showcased their talent at the Randburg Diggers Rugby Club recently. “The tournament allowed the juniors to develop their skills. It is vital to teach and develop players from a young age,” said chairman of the club Johan (Mielie) van Zyl.

“At this age it is not about the team winning. It is about allowing the players to get the passion and love for the game through their skills and team development,” stressed Van Zyl.

Technical coach for the club Albert Bouwer said that the proper foundation is laid and skills are taught according to their age group. “The player is then able to develop as they grow,” added Bouwer.

U8 and U9 coach Deanat Swanepoel said that all he wants is to instil the love for the game into the little ones.
