E-tuk-tuk driver fired for bad service

MELVILLE – Residents ill-treated by e-tuk-tuk drivers are encouraged to report them to management.

An e-tuk-tuk driver was recently sacked, following an altercation with a resident in Melville.

“I have never seen such service in my life. The driver wanted to overcharge me,” said Louise Kruger of Westdene.

Kruger added that she had been charged a fare of R15 when she called the Melville-based company.

However, the driver allegedly attempted to overcharge her by R5.

“It is all about the principle for me. When I called the office to ask for a ride, the operator gave me a price but the drive would not abide by it.”

Kruger said when she questioned the price she was being charged, the driver became aggressive bringing her to tears.

“He was so rude to me, calling me names. I decided to call the office again when I was still in the tuk-tuk but I could not talk properly because he kept on shouting at me at the top of his voice.

He then said I should get out of his vehicle because I am an old lady who always wants to travel cheap. I have never been treated like this and I didn’t deserve it at all.”

Kruger added that this was not her first bad service from this driver.

“I complained about him about five months ago when he did the same thing. I am happy that the company acted very quickly.”

Following the incident, Eve Musi, manager of e-tuk-tuk visited Kruger.

“Our client called me crying and I was very shocked. The driver treated her unfairly so I had to personally go to the house and apologise,” Musi explained.

The driver was fired on the spot.

“Because someone is old, it doesn’t mean we have to take them for granted. Our clients are very important to use and we respect them”.

Musi encouraged residents to contact her directly to report any problems.
