Sparrow’s Combined School falls victim to a burglary

SOPHIATOWN – Sparrow Combined School was left without computers after it was raided in on 14 February.

Sparrow’s Combined School with Grade 8 and 9 fell victim to a burglary on 14 February.

“There was a burglary on Saturday night; three of our computer rooms were raided, computers were stolen and property damaged,” said founder of Sparrow schools Jackie Gallagher.

Gallagher informed that during the burglary the alarm was disarmed and ADT did not respond.

“They came through the roof, and smashed their way out without the alarm going off and it is very worrying because ADT did not respond, “she said.

“It is a horrible experience because we are a non-profit organisation and we are trying to develop skills,” she said

Gallagher also stated that this is the third burglary since 2013 and ADT still did not respond.

“It is a huge step back because it affects 400 pupils. It is definitely someone who knows the place very well,” said the disappointed Gallagher.

Gallagher stated that it will cost them close to R500 000 to buy new equipment.

“If anyone can assist with computers or security, we would highly appreciate it,” she said.
