Gang rape suspect arrested

PARKVIEW – Gang-rape suspect arrested after being spotted by the victim two years later.

A 31-year-old rape survivor walked into Parkview SAPS’ Client Service Centre on 21 January and reported that she had just spotted a 36-year-old male who has been on the run since he and three other accomplices raped her in central Johannesburg two years ago.

“Upon hearing the woman’s plight, without delay, plain clothes members Sergeant Peter Mpofu and Constable Mampheko Rasebokola noted the description of the suspect and went in search of him, and they returned shortly afterwards having successfully captured him,” according to Parkiew police spokesperson Sergeant Llyod Ramovha.

Sgt Ramovha said the rape is alleged to have taken place on 6 August 2013 and the case was reported with Johannesburg Central SAPS.

Two of the suspects were arrested after the incident, and are reported to be serving their sentences in prison already.

The suspect is in the process of being transferred to Johannesburg Central SAPS, where the original charge was laid, and will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
