Vorentoe wins big

WESTDENE – Vorentoe High School shines at the Naboomspruit athletics meeting.

Following their epic win at the National Cross Country Championships in Pacalsdorp recently, Vorentoe High School shines yet again.

The school managed to dominate the annual Naboomspruit’s athletics meeting from 17 to 18 October.

Forty-three schools participated at the prestigious competition and Vorentoe girls, were the team to beat.

They won the overall meeting with a score of 10 000, as calculated by the Absa table, while the boys finished in 13th place out of 43 schools.

“I am very proud of the team,” said life orientation teacher and athletics scout Oupa Maruping.

Maruping also informed that the school hasn’t won the meet in a long time.

“Winning this really means a lot for the school because we have been participating in the Naboomspruit athletics meeting and this is the first time we actually did good in 20 years,” he said.

Maruping further added that he would like to see some of the athletes representing the country in the near future.

“The students all come from rural backgrounds, and them being here and winning is an opportunity of a life time,” shared the beaming Maruping.

Principal and head coach of the athletics team Hans Saestad also gave the team a thumbs up.

“To win in Limpopo is an achievement, the experience was wonderful and we are proud indeed,” said Saestad

When asked if the Grade 12 pupils at the school are ready for the exams, Saestad said they should be ready.

“We prepared them enough, whatever happens now is up to them,” he concluded.
