EMMARENTIA – Gauteng members of the South African Canoe Polo Squad are ready to make their mark in France.

Gauteng members of South Africa Canoe Polo are ready to impress in France.

The Gauteng paddlers have been selected to represent the country at the upcoming World Canoe Polo Championships which takes place in Thury-Harcourt, Normandy in France from 22 until 28 September.

“I feel good about this competition, everyone is in good spirit,” said Chad Andrews, who was selected for the senior men’s team.

The Albertskroon resident stated that they are ready to make their mark on the international stage. “We are ready for the competition and to represent the country,” he said.

The Canoe Polo Squad have been training regularly at Emmarentia Dam for their impending trip, through the sunset and into the dark nights, using floodlights.

“We have been having intense training for about nine months, working hard to prepare for the competition,” informed Andrews.

Ferndale resident coach Andy Pott and assistant coach Warrick Holland will be on tow to ensure that their players compete to their level best.

Spokesperson of Gauteng Canoe Union Jennie Dallas was impressed with the level of confidence that the squad displayed during training. “I think they are highly talented and have worked so hard and tried their best – they deserve to earn the respect of the international competitors, “said Dallas.
