Ruthless scammers exploit desperate job seekers

FAIRLAND- Scammers dressed in FNB attire rob residents of thousands of rand at FNB Wesbank.

Fairland Wesbank in conjunction with Fairland Police Station have recently arrested three males pretending to be First National Bank (FNB) employees and scamming people of their money within Wesbank premises.

These money-hungry swindlers supposedly created an email address that is identical to that of FNB.

Three victims have since come forward – having been robbed of R 20 000 each.

“Some of the victims come as far as Pretoria, looking for jobs. They [the scammers] ask people to pay R20 000 to get jobs with Wesbank,” said Fairland Police Station spokesperson Constable Michael Kagtla.

Desperate job seekers then arrived at the FNB Wesbank premises and after a mini tour, received a contract to sign and a date on which they had to report for duty.

“When these people came to start working, they found that they were not on the system and no one knew about them,” said Kagtla.

The scammers disappeared from everybody’s radar and victims lost their money.

FNB refused to comment on this matter, stating that it is being handled by the police.
