Road Agency launches mobile app

JOBURG - The Johannesburg Roads Agency launched a Find & Fix mobile app that is set to improve service delivery.

The Joburg Roads Agency officially launched a mobile app called Find and Fix at the Microsoft office in Bryanston on 14 May.

The new app will allow residents of Johannesburg who have access to mobile operating system platforms like Windows Phone 8, Android and iOS for Apple to report any road-related issues.

It uses GPS and camera technology to allow Johannesburg residents to “snap it, send it, we’ll fix it”, as the tagline goes.

According to the agency, the app is the first of its kind in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Speaking at the launch, the agency’s managing director Skhumbuzo Macozoma told reporters and guests that everyone should be able to log a call and get a proper response within 24 hours.

“The Find and Fix app will assist the public to report potholes, faulty traffic signals, storm water drains, manhole covers, and other infrastructure issues related to the agency using their smart phones,” Macozama informed.

As for the twitter outburst of people complaining that the agency launched the new app because they are too lazy to do their jobs, Macozama ensured them that the app was a way of partnering with the communities and improving service delivery.

The agency’s assistant manager, Phuti Mampa was also enthusiastic about the new initiative; he believes that it will make work easier for the agency staff members.

“According to me, the Find and Fix app is a great initiative because issues that were reported were often not dealt with on time, we would drive around trying to find the exact location. The app will also reduce issues with duplicated reports,” said Mampa.

Johannesburg residents were encouraged to report road and storm water issues to the agency’s hotline.
