Twitter reactions to our sex work at Laborie Village investigation

AUCKLAND PARK - From the many tweets that came through, it became apparent that sex work at Laborie Village isn't such a big secret, after all.

After our article Students by day, sex workers by night  ran a few weeks ago, the topic of sex work among students trended on Twitter for at least 3 days as tweeters weighed in on what they thought of the issue. From the many tweets that came through, it became apparent that sex work at Laborie Village isn’t such a big secret, after all. Here’s what they had to say:

@Magnificent_RN said “Laborie has always been like that, someone just got too greedy and the story came out”.

@Yaya_Mavi said “The term Lahorie has always been there, just that it wasn’t given this much attention”.

@H_zee said “That journalist is outdated! Laborie has been like that since”.

With comments vastly streaming in, Northcliff Melville Times was made weary that Laborie Village is just but one of the many student accommodations suspected of harbouring prostitutes within its walls. This of course is not to say all Laborie residents or any of the ones that were mentioned are sex workers.

@JackDevero said “Laborie, 28 Stanley, Milpark Mews and The Yard are just like 6 and 9”.

@Mclocal26 said “I think every city with a university close-by has a Laborie”.

@TheGreatGumzy said “That Article on [Northcliff] Melville Times about Laborie should have in fact been about Milpark! Finish and klaar!…I know Laborie is a kind village toward men but Milpark Mews!!! Esses!!!”.

@TshegoFoster said “But Laborie is not different from Bright House, 28 Stanley and Milpark”.

This Laborie Village scandal has opened a can of worms with residents of other communities commenting on similar occurrences in their neighbourhood.
