Ward 99 after 20 years

LINDEN - Lots of Improvements made to ward 99 since independence

Ward 99 has seen many improvements since 1994.

Almost all the suburbs in the ward are aging. As a result, Councillor Don Forbes came up with a Linden Precinct plan that Councillor Bruce Herbert and his current committee committed to implement.

Some of the major changes that have been made, according to Herbert, include introducing overhead street lighting, fixing and replacing aging street lights and road repairs.

Robin acres residents are warned that there would be water pipe upgrades soon. This would be an eighth-month project. Water pipes and fire hydrants will be replaced. This will cause water interruptions; and trenches will also be built during the course of the developments.

“We are very involved in getting the parks cleaned and we are cleaning the area with metro police because people put up boards illegally and sometimes sell illegal items on the street,” said committee member Ellen Levy.

“We are trying to beautify the area. We want to make it cosmopolitan by, for example, permitting restaurants to set up tables on the pavements to give a new feel” she added.

Resident Nicole Raynolds said she is satisfied with the service the council is delivers to the community.

“The councillor and his committee have been able to do all the work they intended, despite various challenges they face, like cable theft.” Getting the precinct plan through council was ward committee’s greatest challenge. R60 million has been allocated for these developments.
