The University of Johannesburg (UJ) issued a statement confirming that the six pedestrians injured during the Auckland park car chase on 29 January are students of the university.

At the time of the accident, the car involved was being chased by the police after allegedly robbing a house in Westdene.

The university’s Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development offered counselling to the injured students, their parents and witnesses.

“Staff from UJ’s Student Affairs division visited all the injured students in hospital, spoke to the students’ parents and extended the University’s support to the family.”

Four of the students have been discharged after they received medical attention.
