eThekwini Municipality to establish online platforms for all ward councillors
The City said this would help inform communities of the ongoing projects in their areas as well as speed up service delivery issues.
THE eThekwini Municipality is in the process of establishing online platforms for all 110 ward councillors to facilitate direct communication with the residents in the areas they cover and ensure efficient service delivery.

The ward-based online engagement platforms include Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram for direct and instant communication between ward councillors and community members.
“It will also allow communities to be informed of developments happening in their wards, as well as being made aware of opportunities and municipal programmes being rolled out,” said the City in a statement.

It noted that it will prove to be an effective tool to allow councillors to engage with residents and provide a safer way to do so during the Covid-19 pandemic.
eThekwini Mayor Councillor, Mxolisi Kaunda welcomed the initiative and said it would allow for faster communication regarding service delivery issues.
“This initiative will allow for unemployed youth in all 110 municipal wards to be gainfully employed as they will work closely with the ward councillors to administer the online platforms,” he said.
