Mercedes-Benz celebrate 25 years of women

This year Mercedes-Benz is not only celebrating 25 years of the local production of the C-Class but also 25 years of woman on the manufacturing production line at its East London plant.

After the 1994 elections, not only did South Africa start transitioning to democracy but Mercedes-Benz South Africa also started adding women to the working force on the production line of the C-Class at the East London plant. Continuing its efforts, MBSA is celebrating the contributions women have made to the history and success of the plant. Currently, over 1700 women are employed by Mercedes-Benz South Africa, manufacturing the popular C-Class model which is sold locally and exported to international markets.

The East London plant forms part of only four Daimler manufacturing plants in the world to manufacture the C-Class and has been the benchmark for quality, innovation, technology and transformation for Daimler plants across the world since it started manufacturing of the W201 model C-Class for the first time in 1994.

“As Mercedes-Benz South Africa, we believe that diversity and inclusion underlie our commercial success. We know that diversity and inclusion matter and creating positive change and a sustainable impact, our responsibility. Companies with more diverse workforces perform better and we are very proud to have been a part of such progressive milestones that have helped us lead the premium automotive market in South Africa,” Abey Kgotle, Executive Director for Human Resources and Corporate Affairs, Mercedes-Benz South Africa
