What’s new at the movies? 

A new superhero is on the horizon with the release of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther at Nu Metro Cornubia Mall this week – along with an acclaimed thriller.

BLACK PANTHER (10-12 PG V)
Meet Black Panther and his awe-inspiring powers, set in a spectacular, action-filled world of riches like no other – and shattering stereotypes along the way – when Black Panther starts showing on the Big Screen this weekend.

Black Panther is the first ever solo outing on the big screen for this revered superhero, after the character was first introduced in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. It stars Chadwick Boseman in the title role; along with Michael B. Jordan, Africa’s acclaimed acting export Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis, as well as various local and Pan-African acting talent.

Iconic South African actor John Kani returns to star as King T’Chaka in Black Panther, the king of the fictional nation of Wakanda and the father of T’Challa. isiXhosa and other African languages can be heard throughout this new release from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Andy Serkis sporting an Afrikaans accent for his role.

ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD (16 DLV)

The kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III results in a desperate attempt by his devoted mother, Gail, to convince the teen’s billionaire grandfather to pay the ransom.

When Getty Senior refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.
