Father-and-son DJ team for Origin

Dance the night away at an alternative ‘80s and modern dance event, at ORIGIN.

FATHER and son DJ team, Helgé and Leo Janssen (Dr Nonono), present Play Too, an alternative ‘80s and modern dance event, at ORIGIN, 9 Clark Road, Glenwood, on Friday, 11 November from 8.30pm.

Helgé, avant garde performance artist, alternative DJ, designer and author, spearheaded the alternative scene through the ‘80s into the mid ‘90s, and has DJ’d at special events over the years. Helgé began djing at Rumours which became Faces and he then formed Play which was hosted at the CAW (Community Arts Workshop) at the legendary club 330 on Friday nights, and at the Berea Inn on Tuesdays.

As such Helgé has transcended the generation gaps that ensued where young and not-so-young found common ground on the dance floor. The Play Too event is the second of a series of Play revival themes.
Dr Nonono was one of the founder members of the Nonono collective that hosted parties in the Durban arena, most notably at the Willowvale Hotel. Dr Nonono  recently DJ’d at That Brewing Co, and at the Africa Burn fundraiser held recently at the DLI Hall. He has developed a large following for his expansive selection of dance electronica. Leo was also the synth and didgeridoo player of Durban’s legendary band THC.
Doors open at 8.30pm. Entrance fee is R50 before 10.30pm and R80 after 10.30pm.
