Famed storyteller’s piece to tour schools

Bookings are available weekdays from 4 to 22 April at fee of R10 per learner.

THROUGHOUT the month of April, Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre will be touring an education programme to primary schools in Durban and its surrounding areas in KwaZulu-Natal. The performance, based on famed Durban author Gcina Mhlophe’s African classic Snake with Seven Heads, is a captivating experience for young viewers. The story is about young people, love and hope, and is made possible through funds from the National Lotteries Commission.

This primary school programme is centred in a narrative dance performance about a hunter who has been turned into a seven headed snake by an old woman jealous of his wife’s beautiful singing voice. It incorporates singing, Djembe drums and spoken word which complements the texture of the dance performance. –

The work has a duration of 50 minutes and is highly interactive, with opportunity for active participation by the learners that will see some of them form part of the performance. As part of the educational programme, learners are also required to engage in the themes and lessons in the story through an interactive discussion.

Bookings are available weekdays from 4 to  22 April at fee of R10 per learner. For bookings call 031 307 6685 or email admin@siwelasonke.com.
