Meet a ‘funny’ Father Christmas

Funny Father Christmas promises to be cracker of a show that celebrates the season with comedy, song and dance.

PREPARE for a merry season of festive fun with popular comedian and Durban North resident, Aaron McIlroy when he is joined by friends, in a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at what is really happening up at the North Pole. The popular comedian is staring in Funny Father Christmas, a fun-filled new festive season show for youngsters of all ages at Grace Family Church in uMhlanga between 10 and 12 December 2015.

He’s known as a large and jolly man who brings cheer to millions of children, but this year Father Christmas is having a mid-life crisis. He’s thinner, grumpier, and far from ready for the Yuletide rush. The situation is so grim that his wife, Mary Christmas, will have to step in to do his job. Along with a team of young elves, she will have to ensure every child receives a present, and that the spirit of Christmas lives on. Funny Father Christmas promises to be cracker of a show that celebrates the season with comedy, song and dance, written by Aaron McIlroy and Patrick Kenny, with musical direction by Shelley Mclean, choreography by Leigh Meyer, and lighting by Michael Broderick.-

Musical highlights include Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, Elvis’s Blue Christmas, First The First Time In Forever from the movie Frozen, as well as a host of other festive season evergreens such as Rocking Around The Christmas Tree, It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, We All Need A Little Christmas, Dear Future Husband, Mrs Santa Claus, Jingle Bell Rock, and the hilarious The Court of King Caractacus.
‘What makes the magic is the music, and the fact that we are sharing the stage with about 20 elves – talented youngsters between the ages of 10 and 16,’ said McIlroy, who plays Father Christmas. ‘So this is a prime opportunity for them to experience professional theatre, and for audiences to support the stars of tomorrow.. There will be lots of song interaction and games in this show, which even has built-in appeal for the dads!’-

Laced with madcap comedy, Funny Father Christmas features Haylea Hounsom as Mary Christmas alongside the ever-popular Mr McIlroy as her errant hubby, and Patrick Kenny as the villain of the piece, sharing the spotlight with a line-up of new-generation stars-in-the-making. Audiences are invited to celebrate the naughty side of Christmas, as Santa tells it like it is in this holiday entertainment for the whole family at UMhlanga’s Grace Family Church.
