Drumming for monkeys

Support the local NPO by attending the fun-filled fundraiser.

A MASSIVE fundraiser will be held in aid of the local NPO, Monkey Helpline, which rescues and rehabilitates hundreds of monkeys from across the Durban area.

Last month the NPO was given the opportunity to meet with David Bozaz, from the Lawrence Anthony Earth Organization and Thula Thula Game Reserve in Zululand.

During the meeting the two organisations generously donated a piece of land towards the Monkey Helpline as a a Rehabilitation centre. The land will be used to build three open air enclosures along with other necessary buildings, such as a clinic, staff and volunteer accommodation.

While the selfless rescuers, Steve Smit and Carol Booth, now have the land to build the much needed facility they desperately need the funds for the project. In support of their project the Musketeers at the German Club in Westville (7 Barham Road) will be hosting an exciting fundraising event packed with drum solos on Saturday, 10 January at 6pm.

Grant Halliday, who is organizing the event, has carefully selected drum players ranging from older experienced professionals, to young up and coming drummers. He has also chosen drummers from different genres of music, such as jazz, blues, rock, reggae, Latin American, pop, Gospel and heavy metal to entertain the crowds.

Some of the drummers performing are Bruce Baker, Shawn Peterson, Shante Bekwa, Alberto Chemane, Pravin Giandhari, Devon Hore, Richard Ellis, Mike Mazoni and many more.

There will also be a military drumline band, some beatboxing by Dane Fataar, and some audience interactive djembe drumming with Tracey Chenanie of Talking Drums.

Entrance is free, but donations are welcome. Raffle competitions will also be held at the event.
