Thando shares her Christmas traditions

"At Christmas time the thing that I look forward to most of all is spending time with my whole extended family."

CHRISTMAS is celebrated differently in every household, and at Thando Nkosi’s home, preparation for the festive day begins at 5am.

“We wake up really early and begin to cook. Everything. There is breyani, chicken curry, braai meat, lasagne and gammon. The only food we don’t have on the day is traditional food,” said Thando.

Her family then huddles into their car and goes to church. Once the service is done they have brunch with her in-laws before going back home and opening gifts. “We then have lunch with my whole family, there are usually about 30 people, and then later in the evening we have a braai,” said Thando.

Christmas, to her, means lots of food, lots of gifts, but most important on the list was all of the love that is shared on the day. “I also get the chance to eat as much as I like without being judged,” laughed Thando. ” But honestly, at Christmas time the thing that I look forward to most of all is spending time with my whole extended family.”
