A futile 16 Days of Activism begins today

Has the man who allegedly hacked his girlfriend’s face to bits, even heard of the campaign that highlights violence against women and children?

Today marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign that is aimed at raising awareness, influencing behaviour change and securing high level political commitment to end gender violence. It runs until 10 December and comes four days after a woman was almost killed when a her boyfriend allegedly took a bush knife and chopped the right side of her face. If you had seen the picture you would feel inclined to write about these atrocities every chance you get.
On seeing the photo I imagined that I could of been the woman on the receiving end. It could of been my sister, my daughter. There is never an excuse for abuse, never.  Perhaps even highlighting these issues are futile because I’m wondering if the man who is alleged to have done this has even heard of this campaign. If he has not, what led him to believe that he could do this to anyone? His upbringing? His ego?
