Crime shoots up as silly season nears
Residents should brace themselves as the silly season approaches along with a crime spike.
WHILE the story of the La Lucia’s dumbest criminal might be a hilarious one, it highlights what might be entry into what is known as the silly season. And while this might be a time when we shop up a storm, it is also a time when criminals are at their busiest.
La Lucia’s dumbest criminal might have been a petty thief but his counterparts, some of whom rob people and businesses armed to the nines, seem to be more determined to get what they want. We learnt last week of a ten-man gang that police say is targeting businesses in the Durban area.
We also wrote about the Enforce security guard who was shot in the leg during a house robbery on Milkwood Drive in uMhlanga on Friday night. What’s more trespassing and business burglaries have increased by 300 and 78 per cent respectively.
