Was the 14-year-old in the Gateway robbery a willing participant?

The video footage showing the theft of thousands from a store in Gateway has shocked readers.

THE little girl who police believe is only 14-years-old stealing R20 000 from a shop in Gateway got our readers commenting non stop last week. The footage provided by Durban North police showed a man and a little girl carrying out a crime with apparent ease.

They tried several spots in the store, looking for where the money could of been hidden until they found the stash in a draw at the back of the counter. The store clerk was clueless. It got a debate going in the office about whether the girl, who looked like a child, was forced to carry out the blatant theft or if she was doing it willingly. Several times on the footage one can see the man nudging the girl forward to look for the money, when the clerk looks for the stock.

While children are often times the victims of horrendous crimes, some people were of the opinion that the girl was a willing participant.
My hope is that this little somehow finds her way out of this situation or that the justice or welfare system comes to her rescue.
