Once again, crime spirals in Durban North

Since 19 August, Durban North has been rocked by a spate of daring and brutal crimes.

ONCE again, it seems that crime is spiraling out of control in the Durban North area. On Friday we rushed to the scene of a shoot-out at the corner of Armstrong Avenue and La Lucia Ridge. The scene was one of chaos with three suspects on the floor surrounded by armed policemen. They were spotted by police at Gateway casing out a bank and made a run for it. But they did not get far and crashed the car hijacked in July.

Then on Saturday night the community was rocked with the brutal murder of  63-year-old Stephen Edmondstone who was killed in his Umgeni Park home. The armed men assaulted his partner and made off with a laptop.

On Sunday morning the news of a cash heist reverberated through the city when four armed men stormed the popular Pick ‘n Pay Hyper by the Sea making off with almost R400 000.

These incidents come just two weeks after Durban North resident Rose Bell was shot dead allegedly by accident by her Metro cop boyfriend, Devon Govender. Bell was killed on 19 August.
